Job Summary:

Under the general direction of the Chief Operating Officer, is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating the volunteer program, patient transport and the greeters and screeners. Primary responsibilities include program planning and establishment of department policies and procedures, goals, budget responsibility, volunteer orientation and training, writing of volunteer position descriptions, risk management, volunteer recruitment and placement, staff training, volunteer recognition and volunteer statistics. Acts as a liaison between auxiliaries and hospital. Directs Patient Transport Service and Greeters.

Job Description:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Behavioral Sciences, Human Resource Administration, Business Management or Communications required.

  • At least three years administrative or supervisory experience in a health care facility or community agency required.

  • Requires good interpersonal skills to work with people of diverse backgrounds, skills and abilities.

  • Working knowledge of budgetary systems, demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, teach, train, write and promote a successful volunteer program.

Job Functions:

  • Responsible for managing operations of Volunteer Services, Patient Transport and Greeters including staff supervision, program planning and establishment of policies and procedures, goals and budget.

  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to assure that the volunteer programs serves to supplement essential services and provide amenities.

  • Develops education programs for staff who supervise volunteers.

  • Conducts needs assessments, researches and plans volunteer and community programs conducive to Winchester Hospital’s and the community’s needs.

  • Recruits volunteers from the community utilizing various resources within both Winchester Hospital and outside communities.

  • Screens, interviews and makes appropriate placements of volunteers. Works with colleagues to schedule volunteers according to department needs.

  • Conducts monthly volunteer orientation classes and develops specific training classes for specialized programs.

  • Plans and implements appropriate recognition programs and events for volunteers.

  • In consultation with Manager/Supervisor of volunteers, develops and supervises volunteer orientation and training for new volunteers.

  • Conducts annual mandatory training for scheduled volunteers. Reviews and updates volunteer handbooks and training materials, as needed.

  • Maintains records relevant to the volunteers and effectively manages volunteer’s performance, attendance and corrective action.

  • Analyzes volunteer demographics and productivity and provides reports and ongoing formal evaluation of programs and volunteer performance.

  • Exemplifies Winchester Hospital’s values and Service Excellence standards. Commits to making every encounter with our patients, patients’ family, co-workers, physicians and other customers the best that it can be.

  • Complies with all Hospital policies and the Code of Business Conduct. Takes responsibility for own safety as well as the safety of patients, patients’ family, co-workers, physicians and other customers.

  • Represents Hospital in community by serving on various Boards and Committees. Conducts tours of facility for various groups. Coordinates Holiday activities involving Hospital and community.

  • Meets regularly with leadership of Winton Club and Friends of Winchester Hospital to facilitate their activities in support of organization.

  • Coordinates the Patient Transport Services, including Patient Transporters and Messenger Services Patient Transport Dispatcher.

  • Oversees the Greeters and Screeners, providing direction and support to patients & visitors.
