The Internal Temporary Traveler Respiratory Therapist Staffing Program participant adheres to the agreed upon parameters of the program. The 90 day assignment, with the opportunity for extension, will be 36 hours nights, per week.

Job Description:

Program Requirements:

  • Temporary Respiratory Therapists will be required to schedule 36 hours a week, of which a minimum of 12 hours must be on a weekend, based on departmental operational needs.

  • Scheduled to work two major summer holiday shifts.

  • Scheduled to work two major winter holiday shifts.

  • Scheduled to take one on-call shift per week as required by the department.

  • Scheduling requirements in the specific area are as follows: 144 hours per scheduled period, 32 hours of on-call per schedule period

QUALIFICATIONS

Education Required: Associates of Science degree in Respiratory Care

Experience Required: A minimum of 2 years of experience

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS

- Valid State of Massachusetts Registered Therapist License

- Certified Respiratory Therapist credential and obtain Registered Respiratory Therapist credential within one year of hire.

LIFE SUPPORT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

  • Basic Life Support

JOB SUMMARY

  • Provides respiratory care to assigned patients by conducting a physical assessment which includes vital signs, breath sounds and general appearance.

  • Delivers respiratory medications to the patient as prescribed by physician orders.

  • Responds to medical emergencies and rapid response team calls.

  • Initiates non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation on patients with the intent to support the patient through their acute illness with the goal to slowly remove the patients from the supportive devise.

  • Conducts arterial blood gases by drawing blood on the patient, analyzes the results and making recommendations to appropriate clinician.

  • Documents patient assessment, treatments and interaction in the electronic medical records system.

  • Assists with airway management such as suctioning, chest physical therapy and intubating, and extubating patients.
