Department Description:The Accounting Supervisor opportunity, working in the Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP) Accounting Department, will be located in Woburn, MA.

Job Summary:The Accounting Supervisor- Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP) role reports to the Assistant Controller, and is a key role within the Accounting Department. The Accounting Supervisor supervises and guides the HMFP Staff Accountants and Senior Accountants in ensuring journal entries and reconciliation schedules are completed in an accurate and timely fashion to ensure financial statements are produced in accordance with the monthly close calendar. This position also works closely with senior management of all departments to ensure accurate and timely monthly financial statements.
Supervises and trains HMFP Staff Accountants and Senior Accountants on HMFP's monthly close process; including preparing and loading journal entries, and monthly reconciliation schedules to ensure balances carried in the financial statements are accurate and valid.
Supervises the month end close process including the production of accurate and timely financial statements on both an accrual and cash basis.
Reviews and provides feedback to Staff Accountants and Senior Accountants on monthly account reconciliations and journal entries to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial statements. In conjunction with the Assistant Controller, work directly with the team to resolve any variances and propose remediating journal entries.
Assists management and acts as technical resource to staff. Serves as a 'go-to' person. Helps staff research and brainstorm solutions to remediate problems and/or questions.
Assists management with production of year-end audited financial statements with accompanying footnotes.
Has the authority to direct and support managers with functional area responsibilities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Direct Reports: 2-3 Indirect Reports: None
Assists in planning, monitoring and/or managing budget in functional area of department.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required. Master's degree preferred.
5-8 years related work experience required and 0-1 years supervisory/management experience required
A strong understanding of the principles of accrual accounting. Strong accounting and analytical skills, to perform account reconciliations and account analysis. Self-directed and motivated, with ability to work independently as well as leading and supervising multiple projects.
Proven ability to apply critical reasoning skills and professional judgment. High level of planning, organization and attention to detail, with ability to effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Proven ability and motivation to act as a change agent to streamline and improve processes. Strong interpersonal skills and work ethic.
Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.
EPICOR and/or Financial Reporting experience.
Experience working in healthcare.
