GENERAL SUMMARY

The Manufacturing Unit Leader will have overall ownership of production, processes, and people included in the respective Manufacturing Unit and will be fully responsible to deliver upon SQDIP targets, to eliminate losses in the area through BD Operational Excellence System and to grow the capability of the team. This role has responsibility for the designated product line including setting goals, making decisions, and driving accountability toward department objectives in the designated Manufacturing Unit. Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function. Ability to read and write and converse in English. Willing and able to uphold BD Values.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to:

  1. Accountable for the achievement of key strategic, operational and functional goals.

  2. Developing and mentoring the manufacturing unit to drive results by focusing on production, associate capability development and ownership.

  3. Coordinates and drives all activities within the manufacturing unit and sets priorities.

  4. Responsible to develop and manage the manufacturing unit’s budget and headcount levels.

  5. Coordinates the establishment and communication of challenging SQDIP goals. Translates manufacturing unit targets into lines / areas / workplaces and ensures that each associate understands what is expected from them with documented individual, specific and measurable targets.

  6. Initiates and lead transformation to ensure that short and long term SQDIP goals are being met.

  7. Resolves issues in the line in a timely manner, while displaying servant leadership. Leads the with BD values.

  8. Runs the Tier Management System (TMS) for the lines/areas

  9. Does yearly performance reviews of the team and ensures every individual has an active development plan in place and does regular 1:1s with each team member to review performance and help them to grow.

  10. Facilitates other BD Operational Excellence System/CI activities and OLE targets within the manufacturing unit.

  11. Translate demand forecasts to establish quarterly->monthly->weekly->daily production schedules, track and report out on delivery performance versus schedule.

  12. Review and supervise production work orders in the ERP system, analyze manufacturing variances, waste, production hours required, establish action plans with unit leadership team and/or functional areas in order to minimize variances that could have an impact on plant financials

  13. Ensures regular, timely, and accurate assessments of hourly associates are delivered through coaching activities.

  14. Works with associates to resolve issues and concerns; involves HR when needed.

  15. Builds their own mastery in the operation, people management and BD Operational Excellence System.

  16. Spends more than 50% of the time on the production floor overseeing activities within the manufacturing unit.

  17. Drives lean improvements, measured by improvements to OLE, and establishes systems that are self-sustaining.

  18. Other duties as required to support the needs of the business.

  19. Exhibits sound leadership, reliable decision making, and appropriate ownership of organizational objectives and results.

  20. Perform job duties to meet operational objectives (i.e. safety, quality, production, waste, etc.)

  21. Optimally supervises and develops others to build an impactful operations team.

  22. Serves as a member of the plant leadership team

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Other responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Aligns with, and responsible for enforcing, all local and corporate BD safety regulations policies/procedures.

  • Follows all corporate and local BD quality policies/procedures/practices through consistent application of sound Quality Assurance principles. Ensures compliance through appropriate communication, training and education of sound Quality Assurance principles. Responsible for the activities and programs as defined for this position in the Quality Systems Manual.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Observes all safety, environmental and quality system standards.

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors of Science in Engineering or related field

  • Minimum of 4 years experience in a medical device manufacturing environment or related industry

  • Ability to work flexible hours between 6:00am - 6:00pm

  • Green Belt Certification or related continues improvement experience/cert.(preferred)
