This staff position will have an impact on improving patient safety by providing excellent mentoring and training of clinical staff.

Job Description:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Graduate of a state-approved and/or accredited RN program required

  • BSN preferred. ADN with a current MA RN license and other required experience and qualifications will be considered.

Experience:

Required:

  • At least two years in clinical nursing

  • Experience as a preceptor or trainer

Preferred: At least two years of health education

Other Skills/Knowledge:

Required:

  • Must maintain excellent teaching skills and enthusiasm for the subject matter as identified in evaluations.

  • Must maintain a current level of expertise in the related specialty area

  • For safety and quality reasons, must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English with patients, visitors, and fellow members of the hospital team

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS:

Required: Valid State of Massachusetts Registered Nurse license

LIFE SUPPORT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Basic Life Support

POPULATION SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS: Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Schedule requirements: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule

Travel requirements: Ability to travel to off-site locations

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to Community Health Programs Supervisor at the Center for Health Living

  • Not responsible for supervising the work of others

JOB FUNCTIONS

As part of the Center for Healthy Living team, this position:

  • Provides training and mentoring to clinical assistant (CA) trainees on patient care, which may include personal hygiene tasks with a patient, proper lifting, and checking vital signs on the clinical site.

  • Works with the Hospital's nurse managers, the HR/Recruitment team, and the Nursing Staff Development team to adjust the training program as necessary.

  • Provides classroom teaching on proper patient care and any requirements and areas of focus as directed by the Hospital.

  • Completes all paperwork for the class, including trainee evaluations and communicating any issues or concerns about trainees' abilities.

  • Assesses trainees' learning needs and teaches accordingly.

  • Modifies teaching style to meet the needs of the trainees.

  • Collaborates with other Nurse Aide Training Specialists and Training Assistants to keep class content consistent.
