Under project-oriented supervision from the department manager, the colleague functions as an enterprise system architect for the implementation and operation of document management systems designed, deployed, and maintained by the department. Key activities include both the use of analytical skills for the development of technical specifications, implementation plans, and operational procedures and the use of organizational skills to structure and manage release plans, QA testing processes, and deployment procedures.

The colleague will also provide broad expertise for Java client and web application development, database schema design, and overall enterprise system implementations that operate on Windows Server, Windows IIS, Linux server, Apache Tomcat, and similar operating environments. Effective interaction with IT peers is a key responsibility for ensuring that infrastructure requirements and dependences are specified, communicated, and delivered.

The role primarily focuses on document management and archival systems in support of patient health, finance, and business policy documents based on several implementations of the EMC Captiva, Documentum, and InfoArchive products. Knowledge and experience with these systems or ones similar from other vendors is a key qualification.

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

1) Architect and lead the implementation of document management systems in support of new business requirements and the optimization of existing implementations;

2) Design and implement document models including object schemas, supporting relational data models, service interfaces, and user application integration;

3) Lead the review of functional specifications and the preparation of technical specifications to support project implementations. Would typically be responsible for implementing portions of the technical requirements.

4) Develop, implement, and maintain policy and procedure documentation in support of operational standards, business continuity procedures and service levels to ensure maximum system performance and reliability;

5) Applies technical skills and knowledge to proactively advocate, define, and implement performance and reliability improvements.

6) Troubleshoot operational and technical issues through an understanding of system architectures, interdependencies, integration points, and application interfaces.

7) Prepare change control documentation and participate in change control committee meetings.

8) Participate in operational review and project status meetings with occasional responsibility to schedule meetings, prepare agendas, conduct meetings, and ensure timely distribution of meeting minutes.

9) Maintain cooperative and respected relationships with supporting IT operational and applications groups to ensure optimum system, network, and storage infrastructure service levels.

10) Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with multiple product vendors to facilitate, technical implementations, product support, and version upgrade coordination.

11) Participates in rotating on-call technical coverage.

12) Maintains strict adherence to the Lahey Clinic Confidentiality policy.

13) Incorporates Lahey Clinic Guiding Principles, Mission Statement and Goals into daily activities.

14) Complies with all Lahey Clinic Policies.

15) Complies with behavioral expectations of the department and Lahey Clinic.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline. Eight years of related experience in addition to the required experience in the absence of a Bachelor’s degree

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Skilled in the principles and practices of enterprise application architecture and design including operating concepts associated with client/server, web-based and service-oriented application implementations. Knowledge and experience with object-oriented application development including the utilization of Java, SQL, and other supporting technologies. Knowledge and experience with workflow-oriented application architectures and their associated operational implementation requirements. Must be detail-oriented, have proven analysis and problem-solving abilities, have excellent interpersonal and technical writing skills, and show a professional demeanor and ability to work with others having wide-ranging expertise levels.

Experience: Five or more years proven experience in IT design, administration, and management of enterprise applications in two or more of the following operating environments: Windows Server; SQL Server; IIS; Apache; Tomcat; Oracle; Linux. Three or more years utilizing Java and supporting technologies for applications development. Direct experience with EMC Documentum, Captiva, Information Archive products is highly desirable.
