State of Massachusetts Summer Intern - Child Support - Northern Region in Woburn, Massachusetts

Bureau/Division Overview The mission of the Department of Revenue’s Child Support Enforcement division is to protect the economic well-being of the Commonwealth’s children by enforcing the financial responsibilities of parenthood. Effective child support enforcement is an essential part of the larger effort by the Commonwealth and the federal government to promote families’ economic self-sufficiency. Position Summary Though the Child Support Enforcement Division is a large one, it is broken down into various smaller functions. Interns will help with performing a variety of duties. Some of the duties include working with the Regional Support Team in answering and directing phone calls, greeting visitors, and providing general information to guests. Interns will also shadow and assist staff members in various departments to gain a better understanding of the organization and how it operates. Interns will experience aspects of the legal assessment of cases, case conferencing, court proceedings, enforcement, financial work, and customer service. Interns will also have the opportunity to assist with any projects related to data which may enhance the business and the goals of the organization. Overall, the intern will gain valuable hands-on experience and knowledge about all inner workings of the Child Support Enforcement Division. * * Core Responsibilities * Provide a positive and professional experience for customers of the Department of Revenue’s Child Support Enforcement Division * Assisting with case management: This may include data entry, document preparation and file management * Assisting with client communications – This may include tasks such as answering phone calls, postal mail, email, and providing general information and assistance to clients. * Shadowing staff and observing court proceedings * Assist in the preparation and presentation of business data for the Region’s Leadership * Maintaining a high degree of discretion in the handling of confidential information Preferred Qualifications * Ability to interact effectively with and establish rapport with diverse groups of people. * Experience in customer relations. * Working knowledge of computer applications. * Ability to establish rapport and to collaborate with others in order to accomplish work objectives. * Ability to research and integrate data from a variety of sources. // /As part of the Future of Work Initiative, the agency is adopting a hybrid work model.
