Job Description

To represent the YMCA personally, professionally and in a manner in accordance with the mission and goals of the YMCA. Under the direction of the Director, the Teacher plans and implements classroom curriculum, maintains children’s records, communicates information to families, and maintains a safe, healthy, warm, engaging, and attractive environment. Age appropriate activities should provide for growth in skill, self-awareness, group relations, and character development. By conducting themselves in a caring, responsible, honest, and respectful manner, the Teacher is a role model for children and adults.

Description

Know How:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age or have a high school diploma or equivalent and meet the requirements for Lead Teacher (102 CMR7.21 (2)c).

  • Have a card issued by the Department of Early Education and Care documenting qualifications.

  • Must be First Aid and CPR certified within the first 6 months of employment.

  • Must have skills in Working with Families, Conflict Resolution and Public Relations.

  • Knowledge of group process - must agree to work in harmony with other staff.

  • Must be committed to the philosophy and goals of the YMCA.

  • Must possess effective leadership skills and crisis management skills.

  • Must possess and utilize excellent organizational skills.

  • Attend Corporate training on Blood Borne Pathogens and Sexual Harassment within the first 60 days of employment.

  1. Attend corporate training on Child Abuse Prevention within the first 60 days of employment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Keep safety of children as a first priority. Emphasizes personal safety and emotional well-being with the children, families, and other staff at all times.

  2. By personal example, helps to interpret the quality of the YMCA character values of children, staff, and families. Must be a positive healthy role model.

  3. Uses positive and constructive methods of behavior management and ensures that all staff do the same.

  4. Supervise children to ensure safety and appropriate behavior and manage transitions smoothly.

  5. To work with the Lead Teacher in the design of the classroom space. To be responsible for making sure that materials are ready for use and put away at the end of the day.

Requirements

Must be Preschool Teacher Certified by the Department of Early Education and Care.

  • 21 years of age or have a high school diploma or equivalent and meet the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) requirements for Teacher (102 CMR7.21 (2)b)

  • First Aid and CPR certification

  • Skills in working with families, conflict resolution and public relations

  • Knowledge of group process - must agree to work in harmony with other staff

  • Commitment to the philosophy and goals of the YMCA

  • Effective leadership skills and crisis management skills

Excellent organizational skills
