EHS Technician

Position Description

Job Summary

The Health and Safety Technician (EHS Technician) works under the supervision and direction of the EHS Manager and supports the planning and effective implementation of the Health and Safety program of the campus of Worcester, performing hand-on and other administrative activities.

What you will be doing in this role:

  • Assists with developing, recommendation, implementation and administration of the Health, Safety and Sustainability Department

  • Supports administration of H&S Pillar and programs to continuously improve the health, safety, and working environment of all Worcester campus using World Class Manufacturing (WCM) tools

  • Supports the administration of the day-to-day compliance and serve as the resource person for managers, supervisors, and shift supervisors for all safety, health, and environmental issues

  • Supports coordinating/conducting appropriate training as assigned by EHS Manager

  • Maintains site safety, health and environmental procedures, policies, training, and record-keeping files.

  • Conduct site audits on a periodic basis to ensure compliance and monitor for potential issues

  • Promotes Behavioral Based Safety throughout facility

  • Help to Inspect emergency /safety equipment per SOPs to ensure compliance with appropriate local, state and federal regulations

  • Works closely with EHS Manager for the use of testing equipment for industrial health and safety. Review of upcoming new or modified equipment or processes, initiating and monitoring ergonomics studies

  • Updates and deploy Risk Assessments, and training employees regarding health, safety and environmental risks

  • Supports managing EHS Management programs as, SMAT, GAIA, Gensuite, and internal and group audits, risk assessment and others

  • Tracks departmental safety performance and audit data (as performed by all levels of employees) for the site. Additionally, compiles safety statistical data of site, department, or individual safety performance and completes, reports on monthly safety performance data for EHS Supervisor and Management analysis

Required Qualifications

What you should bring to this role:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years related experience and/or training on Health and Safety; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred – associates degree in Engineering, Business or technical field.

  • Ability to write procedures with input from subject matter experts. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Effective presentation skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to make mathematical calculations such as percentages, basic statistics, material balance, etc. Ability to calculate conversions of standard and metric measurements.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Possesses excellent analytical and organizational skills and be highly motivated.

  • Ability to work under pressure. Strong organizational skills. Able to prioritize tasks and work.

  • Excellent interpersonal and problem solving capabilities to work effectively in manufacturing and team environments.

  • Excellent computer skills

Additional Description

WORKING CONDITIONS

Ability to work 40 hours per week during a designated shift plus overtime as required. Travel required as necessary. Ability to occasionally work alternate shifts if need arises.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, oily conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud at times.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on a non-repetitive basis.
