Product Engineer, Adhesives & Sealants

Position Description

Job Summary

The Product Engineer’s primary responsibility is to help commercialize new products and modify existing products to meet customers’ needs of the adhesives and sealants (Tekbond) product line. The Product Engineer will analyze requirements and competitive situations, initiate the development, testing, and introduction of new products, and support key initiatives for the Adhesives & Sealants BU; This role requires the ability to work across Multiple Distribution Channels in NAM as well as various other Saint-Gobain Businesses.

Product Engineering Leadership

• Leading critical commercialization efforts for new and modified products.

• Works with regional R&D technical business teams and provide primary technical interaction with internal groups to insure product meets performance and quality expectations.

• Help define technical/commercial strategy for all assigned product lines of A&S, with action plans and timelines to achieve sales and market share goals.

• Works closely with A&S Product Manager and global product development teams in developing the product portfolio, including developing differentiated and innovative products to meet business strategic and financial goals.

Product Engineering Technical Training and Development

• Create an awareness of A&S products and their application advantages by acquiring, evaluating, and maintaining technical product information.

• Provide technical information through training and direct technical assistance to the sales team, customers, and distributors, through training seminars and presentations.

• Troubleshooting for customers and technical training of field sales forces and customers.

• Work with A&S Product Manager to Identify market opportunities and position product/program offerings to best serve the markets – DIY, Construction, MRO/Industrial and AA/Mechanical expansion.

• Drive Critical To Quality (CTQ) metrics for product portfolio and ensure a robust quality control process is implemented and enforced. Support Quality activities including incoming inspections, complaint resolution, troubleshooting, etc.

Gather, analyze and interpret external and internal data i.e. competitive market, trends, economic factors, pricing

• Works with marketing/commercial teams, continual analysis and understanding of the competitive situation, including trends, packaging concepts, substitute technologies, to enhance and create future value propositions.

• Identifies opportunities to collaborate with external partners, suppliers and research institutes, to advance execution of the innovative product developments for the Technical Industrial markets.

• Assist with product pricing management.

Required Qualifications

• BS Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or similar technical degree (Required)

• MS in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Business, or similar technical degree (Preferred)

• 5+ years successful Product and/or Application Engineer experience in adhesive, sealants and coatings materials (Required)

• Industrial experience/knowledge of product applications – specifically within construction industry and/or elastomeric adhesives/sealants (Required)

• Ability to travel 30%-50% domestically and internationally (Required)

Additional Description

• The ability to think and work under minimal supervision is essential, in a remote work setting.

• Customer support experience (providing product application training).

• Demonstrated project management skills.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, cross-cultural aptitude and experience is preferred.

• Must exhibit confidence and convey passion.

• Digital Native, Statistical analysis – Microsoft skills, learn Micro Strategy, SAP.
