Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center, Inc. Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Supervisor in Worcester, Massachusetts

We are currently hiring a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Supervisor based in Worcester. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Supervisor provides comprehensive services to psychiatric patients in an ambulatory setting and coordinate care of patients together with supervising physician(s). This person will also supervise our Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner team and provide them with clinical oversite and supervision.

Clinical Provider Duties (24 hours of patient facing, 6 hours of administrative/notes work):

  • Provides medical psychiatric care to patients with acute medical psychiatric problems with a heavy focus on Substance Use Disorder.

  • Provides Preventive Health Services according to Practice Standards.

  • Provides telehealth services to patients.  May provide telehealth care from another state to Health Center patients, provided PMHNP has a license in that state and maintains license in Massachusetts as well.

  • Coordinates care with primary care providers of EMKCHC patients.

  • Coordinates care and referral to other specialty medical and mental health services.

  • Consults or refers patients with complex or dynamic medical problems to their physician partner.

  • Maintain and perform daily quality assurance and quality control procedures for daily clinic use and laboratory licensure.

    Supervisor Duties (10 hours per week):

    •          Complete annual Performance Evaluations for the BH Department’s Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners. 

    •          Monitor performance of the Psychiatric NPs’ for required clinical documentation. Monitor and review unfinished notes reports and provide support and oversight of timely adherence to note completion policy. 

    •          Work with Psychiatric Nurse NP providers around timely and efficient documentation strategies. 

    •          Work on streamlining workflows such as with scheduling, referrals, intakes, medication prescription coverage requests.

    •          Assist BH Management with patient caseload coverage for prescribers on leave and other time off. 

    •         

    •          Process Psych NPs timesheets. Ensure that during holiday periods there is adequate psych NP coverage when approving time off requests. 

    •          Ensure and encourage the psychiatric NPs are utilizing the clinical and other supports effectively and consistently sch as BH front desk, prior authorization pharmacy support, BH CHW, and case management supports. 

    •          Participate in and ensure that Psychiatric NPs are active in the department's clinical case review meetings.   

    •          Assist BH management team with the communication and interactions with patients when needed related to patient concerns about care provided by Psychiatric NPs or when limits to the care provided need to be communicated to patients.  

    •          Assist psychiatrist with an annual peer review of psychiatric providers. 

    •          Help hire, train and orient new Psychiatric NP providers

    •          Work with IT on psychiatric EHR note templates edits and updates. Learn and teach the Psych NPs how to use and work with the EHR effectively. 

    •          Assist with workplan and disciplinary actions for psychiatric NPs when needed. 

    •          Manage the Psychiatric NP preceptorship program. Help vet candidates, interface with the school(s), process onboarding paperwork, create clinical experience plan and schedule, assign or precept the student. 

    •          Assist with interdepartmental communications around clinical matters and workflows.

    •          Assist the psychiatrist(s) with an annual medication policy review. 

    •          Work collaboratively with BH managers and psychiatrists. Keep the managers and psychiatrists abreast of the needs and challenges of the psychiatric NPs.

    •          Suggests and arrange trainings for the psychiatric prescribing team when needed  

    Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Advance Practice Nurse Program.

  • Active, Unrestricted License in Massachusetts as an Advanced Practice Nurse.

  • Active, Unrestricted Controlled Substance Number in Massachusetts

  • 3+ years of experience as a PMHNP

  • The Health Center requires all employees to have the most recent COVID19 Booster and the yearly Flu Vaccine
