Job Description

Purpose

We are seeking an independent, knowledgeable, and highly motivated Ligand Binding Assay Scientist (Scientist I) to join the Quantitative Translational and ADME Sciences (QTAS) department at Abbvie Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA.

The LBA Operations Bioanalytical team at ABC QTAS conducts non-regulated, pre-clinical quantitative bioanalysis assays of large molecule therapeutics like monoclonal antibodies (mAb), bispecific Ab, antibody-drug conjugates (ADC), and fusion protein for Pharmacokinetic (PK), Pharmacodynamic (PD) and Toxicokinetic (TK) studies using ligand binding assays to support early development and drug discovery efforts.

As a Scientist I, you will be responsible for: 1) Conducting assay development and pre-clinical sample analysis using ligand binding assay and automated liquid handlers 2) Sample, protocol, and reagent management using electronic tools such as Laboratory Information Management System (rLIMS) and e-notebooks 3) Reporting, discussing, and QC’ing results to project teams which enable pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic analysis in support of oncology, immunology, neurology, and other AbbVie therapeutic portfolios.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and qualify ligand binding assays (PK, PD, ADA) using Meso Scale Discovery platform and colorimetric ELISA or other assay platforms.

  • Plan and execute sample analysis based on bioanalytical protocol and in vivo study design on a variety of biological matrices (tissue lysates, serum, others).

  • Analyze pre-clinical in vivo samples based on dynamically changing operational schedule.

  • Interpret, present, and discuss assay results. Make decision on assay readiness for pre-clinical support and dosing regimen decisions.

  • Data archiving in ELN and rLIMS.

  • Effectively communicate experimental plan and results verbally and in writing with broader teams.

  • Actively support lab team day-to-day lab operations.

  • Write, and update experimental protocols and procedures.

  • Initiate, design, interpret, troubleshoot operational assays independently and efficiently.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or related field with at least 5 years of pharmaceutical experience or MS in mentioned fields with 2+ years of relevant experience.

  • Attention to detail, experience in performing bioanalysis, being independent and a self-motivated contributor.

  • Ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment and reagents/material inventories independently.

  • Experience with lab automation is desirable.

  • Experience with ligand binding workflow and assay development and troubleshooting is required.

  • Proven independence and problem-solving ability.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to draft technical reports.

  • Proficiency with computers and data analysis software including Excel and LIMS

  • Ability to summarize, communicate, and interpret bioanalytical results.

  • Work effectively in a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.​

  • This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs. ​

Salary: $71,000 - $134,500
