If you are seeking growth opportunities and new career challenges, WSP has an immediate opening for a full-time Senior Lead Architectural Historian for our Glastonbury, CT office. The following locations will also be considered: Shelton, CT ; Boston, MA ; Merrimack, NH ; Worcester, MA and Providence, RI.
Your Impact
Lead tasks related to the preparation and development of technical documentation for cultural resources compliance under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, Section 4(f) (49 U.S.C. 303) of the Department of Transportation Act and applicable state historic preservation laws
Lead reconnaissance and intensive-level surveys, historic contexts,, National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) nominations and determinations of eligibility, assessment of project effects on historic properties, Historic Structures Reports, condition assessments, and other technical work, under supervision
Assist with tasks related to Section 106 consulting party coordination and development of Section 106 agreement documents.
Assist with preparation and development of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation, Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) studies, and feasibility and supporting studies for environmental planning projects
Develop and successfully manage relationships with internal and external clients, specifically with federal, state, and local transportation agencies, State Historic Preservation Offices, Energy entities and the military and local governments
Use your unique skill sets and experience for expanding WSP's planning services locally, and regionally across the Plains and Midwest. Experience in Section 106 and environmental planning relative to highway, transit, or multimodal planning is a plus for work in this region
Candidates with demonstrable experience working on Section 106 for transportation, energy, or military projects are preferred
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards in the field of architectural history or history.
Master’s degree OR at least 5 to 7 years or more of applicable experience along with a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
Experiencedirectly related to Section 106 review, environmental review, and transportation planning
Familiarity applying the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Rehabilitation (36 CFR 67)
Experience applying the NRHP Criteria to write defensible nominations and determinations of eligibility
Experience determining effects on historic properties
Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Extensive critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most effective solutions to accomplish objectives of assigned projects
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree is preferred
Existing working relationships with transportation agencies in the region#LI-BJ1
